This is a gift for the wine-loving person/couple in your life. I collected 100 corks from friends, restaurants, and wine tastings (if you just bring a bag and ask for some corks, they're happy to give you a good handful). Then I found the frame at a thrift store for $3 and cut a piece of scrap wood my dad had down to size to make the backing. The most time-consuming part was cutting the corks in half. A lot of people leave the corks whole, but I don't like the way they stick out from the backing, so I cut mine in half length-wise, 20 at a time, with a sharp kitchen knife (wearing work gloves to protect my fingers). It's tough to get the cut perfectly straight, but it's alright if there's some variation. Then I laid out all the whole corks I could on the backing, making sure to stagger each row to give it that brick wall effect, and cut the end corks to the correct sizes. With some wood glue and about 20 minutes of free time, I was able to adhere each cork to my backing and create a unique cork board.
