Make a Meal

Food is one of the few necessities we have in life, but even that gets put to the wayside when you're caring for loved ones or have experienced a tragic loss. Or sometimes a new baby or moving keeps you so busy you don't have time to think about dinner until it's too late. That's when bringing a hot meal makes a great gift. Think of things that can be enjoyed by many and maybe even provide left-overs for lunch the next day. Lasagna and pizza fit both of those requirements as long as they don't violate any of the family's dietary restrictions. Soup and sandwiches can be nice, also (just leave the condiments on the side for picky eaters). If the family has prolonged needs (a dying family member for example), get a group of people together from the neighborhood or church to bring meals on a rotation or prepare dinners they can keep in the freezer until they're ready to be eaten. Ask what foods the family likes (especially if they have young children) and try to take at least one stress off their minds. Even if you don't pick the person's favorite food, bringing meals is a thoughtful gesture that we need to start bringing back.
