Depending on how much you want to get done, this can be an expensive outing, but it doesn't have to be. You can get just a manicure or pedicure for $10 at most places, and a lot of places offer coupons or Groupons if you keep your eyes out ahead of time. I've done these kinds of days mostly before weddings, but I've also given it as a birthday gift before. It's best to go with the person as treat yourself, also, if you know them well. If you're doing this for teacher appreciation, it may be better to just give a gift card for a nail salon in the area. Recently, a group of ladies went out to get pedicures and then walked around Rodeo Dr. for someone's 18th birthday. If you have anyone with skill in doing nails, you could even have a group pitch in to buy supplies or bring their own and have a girls day in with a movie and some snacks. I did a foot soak and mud facial at home with my aunt and friend while watching a movie and it was a good bonding time for us. The important thing to is relax and enjoy your time together.
