Shadow Boxes

Shadow boxes are a good craft project for scrapbookers like myself. We like to arrange our mementos in a visually pleasing manner that is perfect for shadow boxes.  My tip for this gift idea is to use something that matches the person's taste and stick with it.  Just because there's purple in someone's wedding invitation does not mean they want purple sequins glued around it.  Stick with simple decorations and use as many original items from the event as possible.  For example, for a graduation, framing the tassle with a picture of the graduate and maybe the school logo on a black background is sure to please.  Don't go crazy with orange and blue velvet just because those are the school colors (Go Titans!).  It probably won't match their decor.

Shadow box made for Jr. High Promotion with a Bible verse and the girls' names.  This one was made to be filled with mementos of their achievements (tickets stubs, pictures, etc).
I made a shadow box display using wedding invitations to match the theme of the wedding.  My brother and sister-in-law had a vintage travel theme with a simple design.  I actually found their shadow box at a thrift store (because of the vintage feel) and bought an airplane embellishment from the scrapbooking section of Michael's to add some dimension.  I found a quote about travel by doing a Google search online, wrote it on vellum (also available at Michael's), attached a metallic white paper sheet of card stock to the backing, and put it all together the way you see at the top of this blog. The "Passport" is their wedding invitation, the "ticket" is their wedding announcement, and the envelope was what the invitation came in. Since they spent so much time on these little details, they really appreciated having them displayed in a simple, clean way.
