Scarves can be much simpler to make than blankets for 3 reasons:
- You only need 1-2 balls of yarn and one hook/needles
- You can make them whatever length and width you want
- They take a lot less time to make

If you want to make something really quickly, crochet a scarf using a bulky yarn. I made the scarf above in about 2 hours when I was just learning how to crochet. Crocheting is good for fun, thin scarves. Knitting is better for patterned, thick scarves. I've done both. It just depends on the occasion, need, and style of the person you're giving it to. I get patterns online at Free-KnitPatterns.com or just look up different knitting/crocheting stitches on YouTube and repeat that for the entire scarf. If you're just starting out, scarves are the way to go.
